PHARR — The Pharr Press caught up with PSJA SW High Varsity Volleyball Senior, Viktoria Garza, and here is what she had to say about looking forward to this year’s season and about herself.
Q: What is your Team Jersey Number?
A: 5
Q: What’s your team goal for this season?
A: My team goal this season is to have more chemistry as a team, and to play more confident.
Q: What’s your best memory as a PSJA SW High volleyball player?
A: My best memory as a PSJA volleyball player would have to be against Valley View, we went to 5 sets and beat them (the game lasted 3+ hours.)
Q: What are your personal goals for this season?
A: My personal goal is to have more assists than last year.
Q: Describe how you started getting into volleyball?
A: I started getting into volleyball when my childhood best friend would tell me to play with her in P.E. class. I was like 7 years old not knowing how to bump a ball and she was probably already learning how to hit. Her name is Kenisha and plays in Shary, I just find it amazing how we get to play vs each other now that we’re older.
Q: What specific skills do you focus on during your training sessions?
A: Lately I’ve been focusing on my serve receive going straight to pocket, but other times squaring up to the ball so I won’t double.
Q: Who is your biggest supporter in your volleyball journey, and how have they inspired you?
A: My biggest supporter has been my dad, he always motivates me to want to be better for my next game without making me feel bad.
Q: What is your favorite part about being a student-athlete?
A: My favorite part about being a student-athlete is having friends and teachers complement you about how the team did the night before.
Q: What is one thing you love most about your hometown?
A: One thing I love most about my hometown is that everything is nearby and I don’t have to drive far to get to where I want to go.
Q: What is your Favorite school subject
A: My favorite school subject is English.
Q: Favorite food
A: My favorite food is pasta.
Q: Dream college
A: My dream college is the University of Houston Law.
