PHARR — The Pharr Press caught up with PSJA SW High Varsity Volleyball Junior, Pamela Bracamontes, and here is what she had to say about looking forward to this year’s season and about herself.
Q: What is your Team Jersey Number?
A: 3
Q: What’s your team goal for this season?
A: My team goal for this upcoming season is to improve our stats as a team as well as changing the culture here at PSJA Southwest in hopes of changing the way people see us.
Q: What’s your best memory as a PSJA SW High volleyball player?
A: My best memory as a volleyball player here at PSJA Southwest would be when we got our first win last year. I remember we had practiced and worked so hard to achieve that win, so the feeling we got after we won the fifth set against valley view last year was incredible.
Q: What are your personal goals for this season?
A: My personal goals for this season are to improve my defensive stats as well as be more aggressive on the court.
Q: Describe how you started getting into volleyball?
A: When I was you her volleyball never really caught my attention. I didn’t start developing and interest for volleyball until I was older. I started seeing how all my friends were playing volleyball so I decided to join and it was the best decision I could have ever made. I fell in love with the sport almost instantly after I joined.
Q: What specific skills do you focus on during your training sessions?
A: When I’m training the skills I focus on are being able to cover more area of the court as well as being able to react quickly in order to not let the ball drop.
Q: Who is your biggest supporter in your volleyball journey, and how have they inspired you?
A: I would have to say my biggest supporters are my parents and my sister. I play a lot of sports such as volleyball, basketball, track, wrestling, golf, and they have always supported me in all of these sports. My parents have always made time to go watch as many games as they can. They have always been supportive of everything I do and they inspire me to keep working hard and leave it all on the court.
Q: What is your favorite part about being a student-athlete?
A: My favorite part about being a student athlete is the support we get from the school. By participating in the athletics program here at Southwest you join something bigger than yourself, you become part of a family. While being part of this community, you get support from fellow athletes, teachers, administrators, and coaches. This sense of community that we build here at PSJA Southwest is the reason I enjoy being a student-athlete.
Q: What is one thing you love most about your hometown?
A: Despite being born in Missouri, I have come to embrace Pharr as my hometown. One of the things I love the most about here is the culture diversity.
