Pharr Press Q&A: Melissa Rodriguez, Lady Javelina Varsity Volleyball Player

PHARR — The Pharr Press caught up with PSJA SW High Varsity Volleyball Senior, Melissa Rodriguez, and here is what she had to say about looking forward to this year’s season and about herself.

Q: What is your Team Jersey Number?

A: 14

Q: What’s your team goal for this season?

A: My team goal for this season is to get stronger as a team by communicating more and creating a stronger bond on and off the court.

Q: What’s your best memory as a PSJA SW High volleyball player?

A: My best memory as a PSJA SW High School volleyball player would probably be all the laughs me and my teammates have shared when we are eating afterwards.

Q: What are your personal goals for this season?

A: Some of my personal goals for this year are to get better and going to my spot for covering and to be more aware of the court so i can see the open spaces and play smarter.

Q: Describe how you started getting into volleyball?

A: I started getting into volleyball in the third grade when my older sister was doing it at her high school as well.

Q: What specific skills do you focus on during your training sessions?

A: Some specific skills i focus on during practices are hitting, covering, going to my correct spot after base.

Q: Who is your biggest supporter in your volleyball journey, and how have they inspired you?

A: I think my biggest supporter in my volleyball journey would have to be my dad because he always keeps me positive and reminds me to do my best and helps me correct some things as well.

Q: What is your favorite part about being a student-athlete?

A: My favorite part about being a student athlete is having something to look forward to I always finish my work faster because I am so excited to play games and spend time with my friends.

Q: What is one thing you love most about your hometown?

A: One thing I love most about my hometown is how everyone in the valley shares most of the same culture so we can all relate to each other and enjoy the same things.

Q: What is your Favorite school subject? 

A: My favorite school subject is English because I like writing essays and it allows me to express my creativity and see different perspectives in books.

Q: Favorite food?

A: My favorite food is probably Italian because I love fresh pasta and pizza.

Q: Dream college?

A: My dream college is Univ. of Miami because when I visited Miami the city was so beautiful and bright.
