PHARR — The Pharr Press caught up with PSJA High Varsity Volleyball Junior, Julianna Guajardo, and here is what she had to say about looking forward to this year’s season and about herself.
Q: What’s your team goal for this season?
A: My goal for this year is to start connecting as a team and rebuild everything from last year.
Q: What’s your best memory as a PSJA High volleyball player?
A: My best memory is probably the Laredo tournament. We always have so much fun and it’s so fun going into each others rooms and playing our games on the road.
Q: What are your personal goals for this season?
A: My personal goal is kind of a stretch but it’s to hit 1,000 kills by the end of the season.
Q: Describe how you started getting into volleyball?
A: I never cared too much about volleyball but when my sister would have privates volleyball lessons I’d join her and then I started having my own private lessons so I eventually got better.
Q: What specific skills do you focus on during your training sessions?
A: A skill I’m trying to perfect is being able to hit different shots intentionally.
Q: Who is your biggest supporter in your volleyball journey, and how have they inspired you?
A: My biggest supporters are definitely my parents. They’ve helped me so much with growing as a player and with gaining confidence. They’ve also helped me a lot with the recruitment process.
Q: What is your favorite part about being a student-athlete?
A: My favorite part is probably knowing that the whole school is cheering for us. It’s so nice seeing my classmates in the student section at games and even some teachers and administrators after games.
Q: What is one thing you love most about your hometown?
A: I love the culture we have here. I think since we are a smaller city in the Valley we know that we have to prove ourselves even more. We are considered the “underdogs” so being able to work hard and prove ourselves in our sport or even just in general is huge.
Q: What is your Favorite school subject
A: My favorite subject is probably chemistry.
Q: Favorite food
A: My favorite food is spaghetti.
Q: Dream college
A: I don’t have a specific college I’m reaching for, but it’d be nice to stay close to home.
